2008

Compuware promotes Robert C. Paul to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this promotion, Paul was President and Chief Operating Officer of Compuware Covisint. In his new role Paul leads the company's worldwide products and services operations, the organization's transformational Compuware 2.0 initiative and a number of other key functions, such as product management, marketing and communications, technical sales support, and recruiting, training and career development.

The company formally launches Compuware 2.0, along with the official introduction of its new global theme "We make IT rock around the world." Compuware 2.0 is a rebirth of the company based on the company's longstanding principles and—in particular—an increased focus on delivering quantifiable economic value to customers.

Compuware receives a General Motors 2007 Technology Supplier of the Year award for its significant contributions to GM's global product and performance achievements..

Compuware releases Changepoint 2009, the latest version of its market-leading IT portfolio management solution. Specifically, Changepoint 2009 responds to the increasing maturity of IT departments by providing advanced financial and resource management capabilities, while also focusing on the importance of end-user adoption to ensure return on investment. The company also releases Abend-AID 11, which features an innovative web interface that helps leading IT organizations enable new mainframe talent to support vital systems.

Compuware announces that was positioned by Gartner Inc. in the "leaders" quadrant in the "Magic Quadrant for IT Project and Portfolio Management." The report evaluated 21 vendors on completeness of vision and ability to execute. The company receives Corp! Magazine's award for "Diversity-focused Company," based on the company's commitment to diversity—in race, ethnicity and more—as a business driver. Compuware DevPartner Studio Professional Edition wins the Visual Studio Magazine Readers Choice Award for "Performance, Profiling & Debugging" tool. Also, its Covisint subsidiary earned its third consecutive "Best Demonstration of Value/ROI" Innovation Award at the Healthcare IT Summit 2008.

Compuware acquires privately held Hilgraeve, Inc. of Monroe, Mich. This acquisition makes Compuware Covisint the world's largest on-demand collaboration platform for lab and prescription data sharing. Compuware also announces an agreement between Covisint and a public-private coalition in Minnesota—the Minnesota Health Information Exchange—to build one of the largest e-health exchanges in the nation. The company reaches a similar agreement with the Michigan Thumb Health Information System (THIS). Additionally, Compuware announces that Covisint will electronically connect doctors across Michigan via Michigan State Medical Society.

The company announces that AAA Michigan uses Compuware Vantage to proactively prevent problems and improve the end-to-end performance of its business-critical sales and service application. Compuware also announces that leading law firm Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersol, LLP joined several other high-profile law firms in turning to Compuware Vantage. Ballard Spahr uses Vantage to help maintain open communication channels for nearly 550 mobile lawyers.


2007

Compuware acquires Proxima Technology's Centauri Business Service Manager. This solution is then integrated into Compuware's Vantage Service Manager, a business service management solution that enables organizations to optimize IT service delivery in accordance with business needs.

Compuware's IT Portfolio Management solution—Changepoint—is enhanced to include prepackaged product and services that deliver a defined set of management capabilities in a defined time and at a known cost.


Compuware announces its Application MIPS Management (AMM) solution, which provides a proactive and systematic approach that enables IT organizations to reduce MIPS levels and growth—as well as the hardware and software costs associated with such growth—by identifying areas of excessive CPU consumption.

Compuware launches Test Factory, a comprehensive quality assurance solution designed specifically to create a more efficient approach for delivering software-testing services. Test Factory provides outsourced testing service providers and systems integrators with a comprehensive and industrialized solution to help resolve a range of complex business challenges.

Compuware Covisint's Chief Security Officer, David Miller, testifies before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary regarding "Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances: Addressing Health Care and Law Enforcement Priorities." Miller outlines how technology already developed by Covisint and proven on a wide-scale could help solve many problems associated with the paper-based prescribing of controlled substances.

Covisint introduces its Trusted Identity Broker, an outsourcing solution that centralizes, automates and streamlines the management of digital identities, making federation—the exposing and accepting of identities across security domains—simple, fast and repeatable.

Compuware continues its commitment to DB2 in support of customers who rely on Compuware solutions and IBM's DB2 platform. This commitment means continued help for customers in solving their business-critical challenges and ensure their IT consistently delivers significant ROI to the business. Compuware solutions supporting IBM DB2 9 for z/OS include: Test Data Privacy solution, Application MIPS Management solution, Application Auditing solution and Quality Assurance solution.

Compuware, along with Wipro, announces a partnership to enable organizations to continually improve service quality by leveraging ITIL v3 and Six Sigma. Wipro's Business Service Analysis, Transformation and Optimization (BATON) consulting solution includes Compuware's Vantage Service Manager, the first service management product to automate Six Sigma techniques.

The company is recognized in a number of ways, including: Compuware Senior Vice President and CFO Laura Fournier earns Public Company CFO of the Year recognition in the first-annual Crain's Detroit Business CFO of the Year Awards; placement on Black MBA Magazine's "Top 50 Companies for Black MBAs to Work" list; inclusion of Compuware Changepoint in the Leader's Quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for IT Project and Portfolio Management; the Yphise award for Compuware Changepoint as the best "IT Investment and Project Portfolio Management (IPPM)" solution; Compuware Vantage recognized as a leader in the Forrester Wave report titled: "The Forrester WaveTM: Appliance-based End User Experience Monitoring, Q2 2007;" Covisint winning its second consecutive "Best Demonstration of Value/ROI" Healthcare Innovation Award at the Gartner Healthcare Summit 2007.

2006

Compuware acquires SteelTrace of Dublin, Ireland. Renamed OptimalTrace, the product aligns application delivery to business needs through a structured, visual approach to the management of enterprise application requirements. Compuware also acquires ProviderLink of Cary, North Carolina, which supports paper-based healthcare organizations in interacting electronically with organizations of greater technology sophistication.

The company hosts its second annual Partner Summit at headquarters, providing hundreds of partners with comprehensive learning tracks that detail partner and customer successes and highlights collaboration between Compuware, its partners and their joint customers. Another Partner Summit is also held in China.

Compuware Covisint announces a three-year contract with Shanghai GM and hundreds of its suppliers based in Asia, North America, Europe and Latin America to provide messaging and integration services. General Motors also names Covisint a Tier 1 service provider as part of GM's 2006 IT re-sourcing initiative. Covisint also wins the IT Executives' Choice "Best Demonstration of Value/ROI" Award at the Gartner Healthcare Summit.

Compuware earns inclusion on the new NASDAQ Global Select Market, which has the highest initial listing standards of any exchange in the world based on financial and liquidity requirements. Compuware Changepoint is positioned in the Leader Quadrant of The Gartner Magic Quadrant for IT Project and Portfolio Management Applications. The technology is also recognized by Forrester Research, which names Changepoint as a leader in the Project Portfolio Management market. Changepoint also earns the Yphise award for best Project Portfolio Management solution, and is selected "Best Technology and Service Provider" by senior IT executive attendees at the Project & Portfolio Management 2006 event.

Compuware receives a number of awards, including being named one of the "Best Workplaces for Commuters" by the U.S. EPA and the U.S. Department of Transportation, one of the 2006 101 Metropolitan Detroit's Best and Brightest Companies to Work For and one of DiversityInc's Top 50 Companies for Diversity. A number of its products also receive awards, including Compuware DevPartner SecurityChecker and DevPartner Studio named Software Test & Performance Magazine Testers Choice Award.

Achieves Ford Motor Company's coveted Q1 2002 certification. Through this, Ford acknowledges Compuware as a preferred supplier that pays close attention to processes, improvement, quality of work and customer satisfaction.

Compuware extends its relationship with the Eclipse Foundation. With Eclipse Foundation, Compuware announces the creation of the Tools Services Framework (Corona) Project to be led by Compuware.

Compuware announces a number of strategic enhancements to many of its product families, including QACenter, Vantage, OptimalJ, DevPartner and Strobe.

2005

Compuware enters into a software, services and technology partnership with IBM and settles all outstanding litigation between the companies. The agreement states that IBM will enter into license and maintenance agreements for $140 million of Compuware software and offer Compuware $260 million of services opportunities.

Compuware announces its continued strategic commitment to Microsoft. In addition to its support of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Compuware outlines plans to continue offering a unique combination of expertise, best practices and products to help IT organizations develop, test, manage and govern applications developed for the Windows platform.

Compuware initiates a long-term commitment to the Eclipse Foundation by becoming an Eclipse Strategic Developer. Compuware will focus its efforts on application life cycle integration and tool interoperability and dedicate resources to the Eclipse Application Lifecycle Framework (ALF) project.

The Gartner Application Quality Ecosystem positions Compuware in the "Leaders" quadrant in the Application Quality Ecosystem Magic Quadrant, 2005: Leaders and Challengers report. Also, the Gartner IT Project Portfolio Management (PPM) Magic Quadrant positions Compuware in the "Leaders" quadrant in the IT PPM Magic Quadrant. According to Gartner, Leaders are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.

Compuware announces comprehensive support for Java development with Compuware DevPartner Java Edition 3.3, OptimalJ 3.3 and Compuware Vantage Analyzer for J2EE.

Compuware hosts its second annual technology conference, this year called OJ.X. Onboard as premier sponsors were Microsoft Corporation, Hewlett Packard and the Eclipse Foundation. More than 1,000 technology professionals attend the all-day conference, which focuses on .NET and Java learning.

Compuware Covisint and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan enter into a strategic partnership to deliver a statewide healthcare portal in Michigan, enabling healthcare professionals, groups, agents and members to improve the automation of routine business practices and shared access to information over the Internet. Additionally, Covisint announces the renewal of its agreement with Ford Motor Company for the Covisint Communicate portal service. Covisint also announces plans to open an office in Shanghai, China to support its growing business throughout Asia.

Compuware acquires Adlex, Incorporated, which pioneered Service Delivery Management technology that enables Internet Service Providers and enterprise customers to diagnose and manage the quality of service that business-critical applications deliver to end users. This technology complements the Compuware Vantage product line by providing extremely high-capacity, agentless end-user experience monitoring and deep insight into application performance. Compuware enhances and launches strategic versions of many of its products and solutions, including CARS, Vantage, QACenter, Changepoint, OptimalJ, Strobe, DevPartner, Abend-AID, File-AID and Uniface.

2004

Compuware acquires the products and technology of Covisint, LLC, the company whose solutions connect the global automotive industry. During the year, Covisint makes available two new services that enable companies to securely share information and business processes with their customers and suppliers—Covisint Identity Management and a lower-cost version of Covisint Communicate. Covisint also announces an agreement with General Motors to use Covisint Connect data messaging service. Under the agreement, more than 6,000 GM supplier manufacturing locations will use Covisint Connect.

Compuware OptimalJ has a big year, with the release of versions 3.1 and 3.2, and the debut of OJX, a next-generation, interactive Java development extravaganza held at Compuware's world headquarters. More than 1,000 developers and C-level attendees hear from Java visionaries from Compuware, Sun and BEA at this event.

Compuware acquires privately held Changepoint Corporation, whose IT governance and professional services automation solutions augment Compuware's ability to help CIOs effectively manage scarce resources to maximize the value IT brings to their business. Changepoint Version 8.01 (rebranded as Compuware Changepoint) wins the 2004 Well-Connected Award in the category of IT Portfolio Management Solutions by CMP Media LLC's Network Computing. Additionally, Compuware Changepoint wins "Best Solution" at the Gartner Project and Portfolio Management 2004 conference.

Compuware strengthens its Vantage product suite in many ways, including the acquisition of the technology assets of DevStream Corporation. The privately owned software company developed an advanced J2EE performance analysis product, later enhanced and released as Compuware Vantage Analyzer for J2EE. Additionally, Compuware announces the release of Vantage version 9.1, the first comprehensive solution to tie infrastructure management to service management, better aligning the use of IT resources with the requirements of the business.

Compuware announces two new DevPartner products—Compuware DevPartner Security Checker and Compuware DevPartner Fault Simulator. These products significantly extend the DevPartner product line's ability to detect and diagnose software security and quality errors in Microsoft-technology applications during the development process.

Compuware inks two strategic partnerships that will deliver the Compuware Application Reliability Solution (CARS) to a broader base of customers. The partnership with Sogeti, a premier provider of IT consulting services, is based on a combined quality management solution comprised Sogeti's Test Management Approach and CARS, called "CARS for Tmap®." The other partnership, with the Professional Services Group of Spherion Corporation, will deliver the Compuware Application Reliability Solution to Spherion customers. CARS also continues to grow with the release of version 4.1, which extends management-level visibility into quality assurance processes. CARS 4.1 also enables greater optimization when managing risk during application development and deployment. Compuware's Testing and Integration Center (TIC) undergoes an assessment against the Capability Maturity Model for Software and is rated at CMM Level 3. The TIC is Compuware's internal quality assurance organization, responsible for testing the integration between Compuware products and product families, as well as demonstrating how Compuware's products are used in a production environment.

2003

In the company's 30th year of existence, Compuware completes construction on its new world headquarters building in downtown Detroit. More than 4,000 workers are based out of the facility, which unifies Compuware's Southeastern Michigan workforce and improves the company's operational efficiency.

Compuware launches CARS, the Compuware Application Reliability Solution. CARS provides its users with greater control over application delivery by uniting proven processes, a rich portfolio of technology and quality assurance expertise. CARS gives organizations the confidence that applications will meet business requirements and perform reliably once deployed.

Compuware and Detroit Public Schools (DPS) announce that their partnership to improve DPS' IT operations received the Outsourcing Center's 2003 Editor's Choice Award as the industry's "Most Improved Process" outsourcing relationship. Compuware also quantifies the value of its agreement with DPS, demonstrating that the company has saved the school district more than $3 million while accomplishing a myriad of technology goals since 2001.

OptimalJ 3.0 begins shipping to market. OptimalJ helps organizations adopting J2EE standards dramatically increase both developer productivity and Java application quality. Version 3.0 includes expanded plug-ins to industry-leading Integrated Development Environments and integration capabilities that address development projects involving legacy applications.

Vantage 9 is released, enabling Information Technology (IT) organizations to deliver service excellence by systematically and proactively improving application performance, as driven by business priorities. By monitoring application service from the end-user perspective rather than just monitoring infrastructure components, Vantage helps IT organizations identify and resolve problems before they impact the business.

Microsoft selects Compuware .NET products for use in Microsoft Technology Centers. Microsoft Technology Center customers gain access to components of Compuware DevPartner Studio, Compuware QACenter Performance Edition and Compuware Vantage Suite for benchmarking and evaluating .NET applications at centers located in Austin, Boston, Chicago and Silicon Valley. Compuware earns 12th place on "Top 30 Companies for Executive Women" list. Compuware Vantage also receives the prestigious Yphise Award for the Best Application Performance Management Software. Compuware DevPartner Studio and TrackRecord products each receive Visual Studio Magazine Readers Choice Awards.

2002

Compuware adds four new members to its Board of Directors, increasing the Board's  independence. The new board members include: Dennis W. Archer; Gurminder S. Bedi;  Faye Alexander Nelson; and Glenda D. Price.


Compuware signs an agreement with DaimlerChrysler for Compuware services personnel to provide production support for 26 key components of various consumer web sites the auto manufacturer features in North America.

Compuware announces the availability of a variety of new product releases including DevPartner Java Edition 3.0, Vantage 8, Fault Manager 2.5, File-AID/Data Solutions 3.3, Xpediter/DevEnterprise 3.4, DevPartner Studio 7.0 Professional Edition and others.

Predictor, a WAN provisioning and capacity planning tool and key component of the Vantage performance management suite, is named "Best Network Application and Operating Software Product" at the Networking Industry Awards 2002. The annual awards, organized by CMP Europe in association with Network News, recognize the success of those companies leading the way in the voice and data networking market.

Compuware enters into a technology agreement with AMD (NYSE: AMD) to add x86-64 support to Compuware SoftICE64. Compuware will provide the global supplier of integrated circuits with SoftICE64 to debug 64-bit device drivers. This agreement enables developers to more rapidly build software targeted for upcoming AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon processors, based on Hammer technology.

Construction on Compuware's new headquarters reaches a crucial stage when the final steel girder is set into place. By December of 2002, the first group of the thousands of employees begin to occupy the building.

2001

Compuware announces a five-year, $75 million dollar agreement with Detroit Public Schools to provide information technology services to the district. The agreement provides for two, two-year extensions.


Compuware launches OptimalView, a powerful enterprise portal that allows customers to integrate business processes, applications and information. OptimalView provides a single point of access to crucial information and software, increasing the productivity of users.

Compuware introduces OptimalJ, a software product that significantly simplifies the creation of Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications. OptimalJ fosters the rapid, accurate design of J2EE applications, increasing the productivity of Java developers of all skill levels.

Compuware appoints Tommi A. White to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). As COO, White is responsible for directing the day-to-day business activities of Compuware's operating divisions. She reports to Compuware President Joseph A. Nathan. Before joining Compuware, White spent nearly eight years at Kelly Services, most recently as Executive Vice President, Chief Administration and Technology Officer.

Network Computing names Compuware application profiling and troubleshooting software, Application Expert, "Product of the Year" in the network and application performance-management system category. Predictor, Compuware's software for predicting the impact of deploying a new application on the network, earns a position as finalist for the Network Computing 2001 Well-Connected Award. Predictor rounds out the year by winning the Network World Blue Ribbon Award for network design tool. Compuware's services group receives eHealthcare Leadership award for the design of a nationally utilized medical system's web site.

2000

Compuware acquires e-business services firms BlairLake, Inc. (Kansas City, Missouri) and Nomex, Inc. (Montreal, Canada). These firms become Compuware Digital Development Centers, providing skilled artists, content specialists, technical experts and strategists to plan, create and deliver e-business services. An additional Compuware Digital Development Center is opened in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Compuware acquires the products of Optimal, an award-winning developer of e-business performance measurement tools. The addition of Optimal's products strengthens Compuware's EcoSYSTEMS software product line.

Compuware announces agreements to provide Application Management services for Ford Motor Company in Europe and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in the United States. Under these agreements, Compuware jointly manages the business software of each of these companies, freeing their staff to focus on strategic IT issues.

1999

Compuware and its healthcare subsidiary CareTech Solutions, Inc. announce a 10-year, $1 billion agreement with The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) for the outsourcing of DMC's Information Systems Division.

Compuware acquires Data Processing Resources Corporation, giving the company a services presence in the Southeastern and Western United States.

Compuware employees number more than 15,000.

Compuware acquires Programart Corporation. Programart provides Application Performance Management (APM) software. APM helps enterprise IT organizations develop and deliver efficient and responsive applications and maintain high standards of application performance throughout the life of an application.

Compuware announces its intention to build a new headquarters building in the City of Detroit Campus Martius project.

Compuware acquires the CACI Products Company. With the acquisition, Compuware makes its debut in the application capacity planning market while creating important synergies with its EcoSYSTEMS line of application service level management products.

1998

Compuware surpasses the $1 billion revenue mark.

Compuware and Oakwood Healthcare, Inc. launch CareTech Solutions, Inc., a provider of high-quality, cost-effective computer operation, telecommunications and application development services to Oakwood and other healthcare providers.

1997

Compuware acquires NuMega Technologies. NuMega products are the worldwide market share leaders in accelerating the development of reliable software for professional Windows and Java developers. These award-winning products substantially improve the productivity of software development teams and the quality of the software.

1996

With the acquisitions of Direct Technology Limited and DRD Promark, Inc, Compuware launches its QACenter automated software quality product line.

1995

Compuware acquires Coronet, a software product for managing the performance of networked applications. Coronet is subsequently renamed EcoSCOPE and join the EcoSYSTEMS product family.

1994

Compuware acquires UNIFACE, a development environment for building, renewing and integrating strategic applications. UNIFACE focuses on the critical areas of e-commerce, enterprise application integration and legacy renewal to reduce the cost of ownership of business-critical applications and increase the return on investment of the IT budget.

Compuware acquires Hiperstation, expanding its automated testing offerings for the mainframe environment.

Compuware commences a secondary public offering.

Compuware names Joseph A. Nathan President and Chief Operating Officer.

1993

Compuware acquires EcoSystems Software, a producer of management software for the client/server environment. With this acquisition, Compuware begins a strategy of providing the most comprehensive suite of end-to-end application and e-commerce performance management tools available.

1992

Compuware completes its Initial Public Offering (IPO) of stock.

1991
Compuware acquires XA Systems, allowing the company to provide an integrated system software product offering for the testing and maintenance of mission-critical business applications running in the IBM mainframe environment. Compuware develops and releases File-AID/PC, the company's first PC-based testing tool.

1990

Compuware acquires Centura Software—makers of Xpediter—solidfying its leadership position in the interactive software debugging marketplace.

1987

Compuware moves from its Southfield location to a new corporate headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The corporate headquarters will eventually contain a wellness center, sundry shop, day care and other amenities to attract and retain the best employees. Compuware acquires its first European subsidiaries.

1986

Compuware announces Playback, the company's first automated testing tool.

1983

Compuware launches its File-AID product line. Using a request-driven interface, developers are able to use File-AID products to quickly and easily find, create, extract, transfer, fix, convert, load, edit, age and compare data. This allows developers to focus on developing and maintaining applications that meet business needs.

1978

Compuware opens its first remote office to service the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore area.

1977

Compuware introduces Abend-AID, its first software product. Designed to detect bugs and suggest corrective action in corporate mainframe systems, Abend-AID is still a standard in a market with more than 8,000 copies currently in use. The release of Abend-AID establishes a product strategy for Compuware, alleviating the peaks and valleys of revenue that occur in the services business.

1973

Peter Karmanos, Jr., Thomas Thewes and Allen B. Cutting establish Compuware Corporation. Their vision is to help people do things with computers by providing their clients with professional technical services, allowing them to focus on their own core businesses.
