GSE UK Conference 2018: Join Us to Learn About IMS Testing
Overview: Learn what Compuware Solution Consultant John Butterweck will be discussing during his session on IMS testing at the 2018 GSE UK Conference.
The 2018 GSE UK Conference (November 5–7) is returning to the Whittlebury Hall Hotel once again, but this time for three days of intensive education on an extensive range of mainframe topics. This year we have four Compuware experts covering five different sessions, one of which Solution Consultant John Butterweck is presenting.
New Environment for IMS Testing Needed? (with DEMO)
Tuesday, Nov. 6 | 13:45 – 14:45 & 16:30-17:30 | Rooms: Becketts & Wellington B
During his session, John will explain why you need a new environment for IMS testing. We recently caught up with him to get his thoughts on the importance of GSE and get a preview of what he’ll be talking about.
Why do you think GSE is important today?
JB: The GSE user groups are a place to meet! To meet with IT people talking about specific topics, trends or IT in general.
What are you speaking about at GSE?
JB: I am speaking about IMS virtualization with COPE from Compuware. Within the DevOps chain you have to test your application by using the sub-system your application is running, i.e. IMS. COPE helps to define more IMS test environments running in one physical IMS image. With COPE you save common storage area, buffer sizes, time for administration, etc.
Use the Compuware COPE ROI Calculator to determine how much time and money you could save by virtualizing your IMS systems.
What are the challenges organizations face with IMS today?
JB: The challenges are to get people to work with IMS and to find support from management to re-invest in IMS. Modernizing the applications, being agile, supporting a DevOps strategy are projects every customer has to work on.
IMS is still the most secure, highest-performing and lowest-cost hierarchical database management software integrated with a high-throughput online transaction and batch processing environment. More than 265 billion transactions per day are running in IMS. Think about getting money from an ATM, booking a flight, etc. IMS is a modern, open platform with expansive integration capabilities.
How can organizations solve those challenges?
JB: By using intelligent tools. COPE can help to define more IMS test environments application developers need in order to work on several projects.
Why is your session worth attending?
JB: You want to know how COPE works? Join this session!
