Uniface has the capability to deploy web, client/server and character-mode applications in a variety of multi-tier deployment scenarios, and on a multitude of deployment environments. This takes advantage of existing hardware and database investments, eliminating any "vendor lock-in" from suppliers.

The Uniface Router

The multi-tier deployment capabilities consist of Uniface Servers, which are managed by the Uniface Router, a multi-threaded broker that carries out the load balancing of Uniface server processes.

The Uniface Router includes a management "console" called the UROUTER monitor to provide real-time application performance reporting and tuning for optimizing application performance in real time.

The Uniface Server

Uniface Server

The Uniface Server provides deployment options for flexible deployment capabilities based upon individual requirements.

  • Remote Data Access functionality manages data connectivity to a vast array of data sources.
  • The Uniface Virtual Machine provides remote application invocation functionality, giving developers the ability to deploy Uniface Services on a server, while the Remote Application Invocation executes components developed in a variety of technologies.
  • Both the Uniface Virtual Machine and Uniface Remote Application Invocation can execute components either synchronously or asynchronously, depending on application requirements.

User Interface Deployment Options

Uniface applications can be deployed in a variety of options, ranging from character mode to web-based.

  • Uniface Client/Server provides a rich, functional user interface for end users. Uniface offers the choice of a full Windows XP look-and-feel, plus support for both Windows 2000 and Windows NT clients.
  • The Uniface Web Application Server provides true web applications with a browser interface and Uniface scalability and reliability.
  • Character-mode, or Chui, is a deployment option with no source code changes required. This gives the option of terminal mode deployment, often used for Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) or manufacturing environments.
  • The open connectivity of Uniface does enable a non-Uniface user interface to be integrated into a Uniface application.

Uniface JTi

Uniface Java Thin Client is a deployment option to deploy client/server applications in a browser with no extra development required.

The result is a zero-administration application that is a fully functioning client/server application, capable of being executed through either Internet Explorer or Netscape with the added benefit of minimal network traffic from the Rapid X Protocol.

Automated Application Distribution and Updates

The Uniface Development Environment provides the ability to create Uniface Archive (UAR) files. These compressed files enable the delivery of applications, or subsequent updates, to a deployment site. A deployment utility within the Uniface deployment environment automatically extracts the application components from the UAR files and distributes them. This utility is available on all of the Uniface deployment platforms, eliminating the requirement for any specific deployment knowledge.
