Optimized Test Management
A successful test plan must take a number of factors into consideration and make tough decisions on what to test and what not to test. QADirector is Compuware's test management solution that helps you to optimize your testing efforts to get the most out of your quality assurance organization and align with business needs and priorities.

Align Testing with Requirements
Test requirements can be published to QADirector from Compuware's business requirements solution Optimal Trace, or from a number of other requirements tools including Borland CaliberRM, IBM RequisitePro or Telelogic DOORS. A lightweight test requirements solution, Reconcile, is included as part of Compuware's functional testing suite, which can also publish requirements to QADirector. As tests are executed and defects found, results and defect information are synchronized with the requirements tool, providing your business users with traceability into the quality of their requirements. As requirements change, updates can be managed automatically, updating the relevant assets in QADirector with the changes, enabling the quality assurance team to react quickly to change.
Test requirements can also be managed directly through QADirector's interface that provides powerful editing capabilities through a web interface. The solution provides integration with Microsoft Excel to enable offline editing and a rich windows interface for bulk editing.
Balance Risk, Cost and Quality
Once the test requirements are understood, the quality assurance team prioritizes their testing efforts in alignment with the business goals and other technical and quality factors. QADirector is the only solution that helps you prioritize testing based on various risk factors, including metrics from business, development and other qualitative metrics for an objective assessment of testing risk.
The system also provides time estimation capabilities for test cases and requirements. Another unique feature of QADirector is the Quality Optimizer, which allows you to visualize risk versus time versus coverage. It provides an easy-to-use interface that allows you to understand and manage what-if scenarios. These scenarios help you understand how much time/cost will be required to minimize risk, how much risk will be incurred to meet timeframe goals, and/or where the risk will be incurred in terms of requirements coverage.
The Quality Optimizer also provides easy-to-read reports in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF or web formats for easy distribution to other team members. This enables the quality team to communicate risk to IT and business management in meaningful ways.
Re-use assets to quickly create execution plans
The Quality Optimizer feature allows you to create or update a test execution plan directly from your what-if business scenarios. QADirector uses a centralized Test Library that manages your entire portfolio of test assets. Test scripts within the library can be automatically linked to the plan, and testers can efficiently re-use existing assets through a simple drag-and-drop interface. This enables effective re-use of test assets across the organization.
Centrally manage test execution and analysis from web browser
QADirector allows you to manage a centralized library of test scripts, including manual tests, automated test scripts, test data and user-defined or custom tests. Once they are created or imported into the Test Library, they can be scheduled and executed together to achieve your testing goals. QADirector can manage complex testing scenarios, and is fully integrated with Compuware File-AID/CS for test data management and Compuware TestPartner for test automation, allowing you to mix automated and manual tests to achieve testing goals.
QADirector provides built-in capabilities for creating and managing manual test scripts. Script steps can contain instructional or multiple-choice-based questions. Testers can also attach additional test documentation to the test during definition and execution.
QADirector provides you with scheduling capabilities to manage automated test execution in off-hours. The system also provides remote execution capabilities that allow you to manage distributed test execution across the LAN/ WAN. Manual test cases can be assigned to specific testers and accessed remotely through the web interface, helping to improve access and productivity with manual testing efforts.
QADirector manages the collection of pass/fail statistics and provides capabilities to view test execution results and submit defects and associated information to an integrated defect tracking system.
Understand quality in meaningful business terms
As tests are executed, QADirector automatically rolls-up execution statistics and associated defects with the test plan, providing you with traceability from test requirement to execution to defect.The Requirements Dashboard gives you an instant view of progress and results, providing you with coverage, pass/fail/not-started metrics, number of test scripts and number of associated defects.
The dashboard also allows you to quickly drill-down into areas of concern. By clicking on a hyperlink, you can go straight to the associated failure for closer inspection, go straight to the test script for review or editing, or straight to the defect to understand whether an associated defect has been fixed or is still pending.
In addition to a real-time dashboard that provides traceability from requirements to defects, QACenter also provides power reports that help you to understand application quality from different perspectives. QACenter provides administrative reports on tester productivity; execution reports on pass/fail statistics as they relate to requirements, priority or specific test assets; asset management reports that help you manage the thousands of test assets that can accumulate over time; and planning reports that help you to plan a more effective testing campaign. The reports allow you to configure their parameters and tailor them to your testing needs.
In addition, QACenter also features a custom report capability that allows you to query on the information managed by the system, and export it to XML or CSV format for external analysis. The benefit of this approach is that it understands the data relationships of the system and helps you to report on associated assets without you having to learn the schema of the system database.
