Resource Management

Allocate the right people at the right time

Large or small, every IT organization must engage in some form of resource management: assigning the right resource to each request or project based on availability, function and skill level. As demand on IT grows in volume and complexity, it's even more important for IT managers to have the ability to quickly evaluate and assign their resources to achieve success. As businesses demand better allocation of IT resources, IT organizations require a means to automate resource management.

Changepoint - Resource Management

Compuware Changepoint provides resource management capabilities to help you more effectively allocate resources across all the work of IT. Powerful resource profiles define skills and qualifications, roles played, capacity, costs and other critical information for all IT resources. Organizational hierarchy is reflected, ensuring a clear understanding of the business. The Changepoint solution ensures optimal security, with administrator-appointed access to resource information. The solution supports both a centralized and decentralized resource management approach, with support for resource requests at initiative, project or task level.

Ensure the best available resource

Changepoint enables you to conduct "resource searching"--powerful searches that ensure the best resource, balancing all competing priorities, is found. Searches can be based on many variables, including workgroup, resource skills and qualifications, location, resource type, project history and availability. Availability searches are flexible enough to consider any or all types of work, and various statuses of work. For example, some organizations may want to consider "draft" projects when evaluating availability. Search results may be analyzed further, and then selected resources are assigned either to the project itself or to the resource request to continue through workflow.

Changepoint provides comprehensive resource scheduling views. Managers can begin with calendar visibility for a team of individuals and drill right through to detailed individual resource calendars that reflect tasks, appointments and other commitments. With two-way synchronization with Microsoft Outlook, Changepoint enables you to view task assignments alongside Outlook-based appointments for unified resource scheduling.

Gain the big picture on IT resources

Changepoint allows managers to gain the big picture on resources, comparing the total capacity of IT employees to total demand. Demand and capacity analysis is a powerful and necessary tool during Portfolio and Investment Planning, ongoing Project Portfolio analysis and as a day-to-day resource management tool. You can gain key insight with Changepoint's interactive graphical view of demand versus capacity that enables powerful "what if" analyses. It is critical that all types of IT work--planned, project and request-based--be considered for accurate demand and capacity analysis.

Managers can easily see where demand exceeds supply, where skills need to be enhanced or developed, or if new staff members need to be brought on board, and can make the necessary adjustments to reach an acceptable plan, that prioritizes business objectives.

With Changepoint's drill-down capabilities, potential bottlenecks caused by conflicts between (or lack of) resources are easily identified and resolved before the project is put in jeopardy.

Recruitment management at your fingertips

If an appropriate resource can not be found within the IT organization, Changepoint offers integrated recruitment management capabilities, translating the resource request into a staffing request, and managing the recruiting process.

With real-time visibility into resource capacity, assignments, skill level and utilization with overall IT demand, Changepoint helps you make more effective resource allocation decisions.
