Compuware Named One of the Best Workplaces for Commuters

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation Recognize Company for Effective Commuting Options for Employees

DETROIT--October 18, 2006--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today named Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) one of the Best Workplaces for CommutersSM. This designation recognizes the many effective commuter programs Compuware’s Commuter Assistance Center provides its employees.

Currently, Compuware offers a number of programs that protect the environment and help its employees save on the cost of commuting, eliminate wear and tear on their personal vehicles and reduce commuting stresses. Compuware offers its employees: vanpooling, carpooling, transit or bus passes, schedules for mass transportation, on-site employee matching for vanpools and carpools, secure bicycle-parking, guaranteed ride-home for those participating in vanpooling and carpooling, a web site link to real-time commuting information and pre-tax payroll deduction for transit and vanpool participants.

"We are proud to be recognized by the EPA and DOT for these efforts," said Thomas M. Costello, Jr., Compuware Senior Vice President of Human Resources. "We believe that it is extremely important to provide our employees with benefits that help them create or maintain a healthy Work/Life balance. Assisting them in their commuting choices is just one way that we help facilitate that balance."

According to Margo Oge, EPA Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality, the effects of these kinds of incentive programs can be dramatic.

"If just half of all U.S. employees were covered under these commuter benefits, traffic and air pollution could be cut by the equivalent of taking 15 million cars off the road every year, saving American workers about $12 billion in fuel costs," Oge said. "That’s both cleaner air and real savings for families."

Best Workplaces for Commuters, a public-private partnership developed by the EPA and DOT, is designed to cut traffic congestion and traffic-related air pollution while also recognizing employers who provide environmentally friendly commuter benefits to employees.
