Compuware Introduces Business Requirements Management Solution
Compuware Optimal Trace Enables Business and IT Organizations to Collaborate More Effectively
DETROIT--June 27, 2006--Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) today announced the introduction of Optimal Trace™, a business requirements management solution that helps IT organizations capture and manage true business requirements. The new offering stems from Compuware’s recent acquisition of SteelTrace, which has been fully integrated into the Compuware family of Application Delivery solutions and enhanced to better meet the needs of enterprise customers. "For IT organizations looking to contribute to business success, it is essential to collaborate effectively with business users to accurately define the requirements for new application investments," said John Williams, Senior Vice President, Product Management and Strategy, Compuware. "Compuware Optimal Trace delivers unique capabilities that allow business and IT stakeholders to become better partners in order to assure project success." Compuware Optimal Trace introduces an innovative approach to requirements capture called "structured requirements." Structured requirements describe application requirements from the perspective of the user, complete with visual storyboards and a disciplined way to represent the relationships between requirements. Optimal Trace’s structured approach ensures that IT organizations capture the right requirements and dramatically improves the ability of IT to deliver applications that meet the needs of the business. "A structured approach to considering requirements can more fully describe the requirements in context," said Matt Light, Research Director for Gartner, Inc. "The lack of a thorough description of requirements can yield disconnects and defects that are invisible to developers until future iterations, which may require extensive rework." Compuware’s new Optimal Trace product includes advances that enable easier deployment in modern, global organizations with distributed workforces. These advances include enhanced connectivity, better administrative and security capabilities, and a flexible licensing model. "ADP Canada’s IT organization, with developer teams in multiple locations, needed a centralized framework to define, capture and manage business requirements," said Peter Jackson, Manager, Payroll Analysis for ADP Canada. "Compuware Optimal Trace has enabled us to greatly enhance the communication between our lines of business and our development teams, ultimately making us more effective in achieving business goals. We consider business requirements management as foundational to the value that the IT department delivers."
