Compuware Study Details ROI Benefits for Companies Implementing IT Governance and Management Solution

Study Also Points to Improved Resource Utilization, Project Success and Operational Efficiency for Changepoint Customers

DETROIT-December 12, 2005-Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) today announced the results of a new study conducted by Forrester Consulting and commissioned by Compuware. The study discovered benefits from implementing the Compuware Changepoint IT governance and management solution, including cost savings, improved resource utilization, increased project success rate and enhanced IT operational efficiency.

Based on interviews with four Changepoint customers—one each in the health care, financial services, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries—Forrester Consulting found the non-risk adjusted (best case) return on investment (ROI) for the companies surveyed to be 134 percent of the investment. The survey also found that, when factoring potential risk, a 95 percent return could be expected with a break-even investment term of 37 months after deployment of Changepoint. Forrester also determined that faster payback periods were realized by organizations with more mature IT governance processes in place prior to the implementation of Compuware Changepoint. The study, titled "The Total Economic Impact (TEI) of the Compuware Changepoint Solution," also showed that the faster Changepoint users adopted the solution, the shorter the payback period. In the report, Forrester highlighted the benefits of companies adopting an IT governance solution: "Based on these findings, companies looking to implement an IT Governance and Management solution can see the opportunity for cost savings and productivity improvements by implementing Compuware Changepoint. Using the TEI framework, many companies may find the potential for a compelling business case to make such an investment."

Compuware Changepoint, an integrated IT governance and management solution, enables CIOs to manage IT portfolios, gain organizational effectiveness and improve the quality of IT service delivery by utilizing role-based executive dashboards to help optimize resources and align the priorities on a CIO’s agenda with business strategy. The Forrester study was commissioned to examine the total economic impact and potential ROI organizations could realize by adopting the Changepoint solution.

In the study, Forrester cited the reasons that customers have chosen the Changepoint IT governance solution: "The key reasons why interviewed customers selected Compuware Changepoint were for its ease of use, flexibility and integrated functionality." The study also noted: "Based on information collected in interviews with current Compuware Changepoint customers, the study found that organizations can realize benefits in the form of cost savings from the elimination of redundant projects, improved resource utilization, improved project success rate, and improved IT operational efficiency."

The in-depth interviews in the study uncovered that IT organizations can realize quantifiable impact from the implementation of Compuware Changepoint in the following areas:

  • Improved Project Success Rate—The adoption of project and budget tracking through Changepoint allows organizations to gain visibility into project status and spend, while managing risk and scope changes, leading to an increase in projects that are on time and on budget.
  • Improved Resource Utilization—Customers can balance resource supply with demand by adopting Changepoint demand and request management, and resource management and time tracking.
  • Improved IT Operational Efficiency—With Changepoint, the automation of previously manual IT governance processes allows organizations to realize cost savings and improve IT operational efficiency.
  • Removal of Redundant and Underperforming Projects—The adoption of the portfolio management functionality offered by Changepoint allows organizations to load all business plans into one system and sort and track projects to identify and eliminate redundant or underperforming projects.
  • Elimination of Home Grown Systems—With Changepoint, customers can replace existing systems with one common tool, eliminating costs associated with the administration, maintenance and support of home grown IT governance systems.

Forrester’s in-depth study and survey of Changepoint customers has quantified what we have known for quite some time; Compuware Changepoint helps CIOs get control over IT delivery, enabling them to realize return from their investment," said Kim Turner, Marketing Director, Compuware IT Governance Solutions. "In a tight fiscal environment, CIOs need a solution like Changepoint to manage the increasing demands for new IT services and their existing application portfolios. Compuware can help companies that are considering an investment in an IT governance and management solution to build a business case specific to their organization."
