Detroit Public Schools Recognized for Strategic Vision, Receives PeopleSoft’s "Leaders in Supply Management" Award
Award Cites Detroit Public Schools for Dramatically Driving Down Cost of Supplies, Improving Financial and Supply ManagementDETROIT--October 27, 2004--Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) today announced that the Detroit Public Schools (DPS) has recently been awarded PeopleSoft’s "Leaders in Supply Chain Management" award. PeopleSoft honored DPS for the district’s innovation and excellence in the areas of procurement and supply chain management. The Detroit Public Schools’ IT organization operates in partnership with Compuware Corporation. "Over the last two years, Detroit Public Schools has migrated its Information Technology from old, stand-alone legacy systems into a fully integrated PeopleSoft enterprise system," said Art Hanby, Deputy Chief Contracting Officer for the Detroit Public Schools. "We are honored by PeopleSoft’s recognition of this achievement, and we are going to continue to improve to meet the goal established by CEO Dr. Kenneth Stephen Burnley to continue transforming the district into an effective and efficient organization." The district migrated its financial and procurement systems to a new Enterprise Resource Planning system from PeopleSoft, supported by IT services from Compuware. The new system allows DPS to improve its financial, inventory and supply chain processes, reducing purchase order errors, eliminating paper and reducing the delivery time of supplies from weeks and sometimes months to days. The Detroit Public Schools team and Compuware exceeded goals for implementation by rolling out the entire PeopleSoft ERP system in nine months. PeopleSoft applauded Detroit Public Schools for its efforts to reduce purchase order errors, receive supplies more promptly and streamline its annual spend for office, classroom, maintenance and custodial supplies. DPS achieved these goals by successfully implementing PeopleSoft Financials, eProcurement and Purchasing to power its Direct Connect web-based procurement system. Now known as a global leader in the practice of procurement, Detroit Public Schools has streamlined and expedited ordering processes, dramatically driving down the cost of supplies. "We are extremely proud and grateful for this recognition by PeopleSoft," said Tommi White, Chief Operating Officer for Compuware Corporation. "Compuware looks forward to continuing to support Detroit Public Schools in meeting its educational mission." Detroit Public Schools’ achievements in this implementation were positively impacted by the district’s strong commitment to training its staff on eProcurement and financial systems, while simultaneously enhancing the capabilities of its help desk. To ensure users are able to enjoy the benefits of the implementation, the district requires all end-users to be certified in order to keep their eProcurement user access valid. Additionally, the district’s IT department, along with Compuware, trained help desk staff and upgraded the support facility. Help desk technicians are now able to support users in real-time by viewing the end-user’s screen for trouble shooting and by conducting on-line training of the users as they enter orders.
