Compuware Announces Innovative New Software for Enterprise Data Privacy
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- May 13, 2002 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today announced the general availability of Compuware File-AID/Data Solutions 3.3. The product’s new functionality protects production data during application testing and market research. Compuware is offering this automated solution, available at introductory pricing through June 30, 2002, to address the growing concerns of customers about the security of their critical data. "Data privacy is a boardroom issue today, and it impacts all levels of the organization," said Pete Lindstrom, Director, Hurwitz Group. "Compuware’s solution resolves a known weakness in many privacy campaigns, that of production data being used in test environments, while addressing the developer’s need for legitimate test data." Testing and research can expose sensitive production data--such as medical record numbers, diagnoses, Social Security numbers and home addresses of customers--to many employees, including IT and non-IT testers. In the wrong hands, this sensitive data could be manipulated for public viewing via the Internet or otherwise misused, intentionally or unintentionally. "Data is the lifeblood of Blue Cross Blue Shield MN, and protecting that data is absolutely critical, especially because of HIPAA and other data-compliance situations," said John Stevens, Testing Manager, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. "Compuware File-AID/Data Solutions protects privacy and maintains integrity through translation and the aging of sensitive data fields. As part of an overall file and data management solution, this product provides us with a framework for managing data extraction all the way from production into test environments and back again." Compuware now provides a way to protect sensitive information without impeding the testing process. File-AID/Data Solutions, for which a patent is being sought, does this through an exclusive feature called Data Disguise that helps ensure data privacy and reliability during testing by securely changing data in several ways. "A company’s reputation is arguably its most important asset, and it can be negatively and significantly affected by a breach in data privacy," said Jim Holland, Director of Product Management, Compuware Corporation. "Compuware, in a way no other company can, helps ensure our customers’ reputations by protecting sensitive data while making the testing process more efficient."
