Compuware Announces Browser-based Solution for Analyzing Enterprise Applications

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- June 3, 2002 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today announced the general availability of STROBE 2.5 and introduced iSTROBE, a new browser-based solution for analyzing application performance information. Compuware STROBE 2.5 introduces new functionality that automatically measures abnormal program behavior. Compuware iSTROBE enables interactive analysis of enterprise applications based on WebSphere MQ, CICS/TS, Visual Age for Java, DB2, IMS and Unix System Services.

Compuware STROBE enables organizations to determine where and how applications use resources in IBM OS/390 and z/OS environments. Incorporating STROBE measurement into key phases of the application life cycle--especially development, test and production--helps ensure that applications run efficiently and responsively and that no performance problems are unintentionally introduced. With STROBE 2.5, companies now can more effectively analyze sporadic problems and save time searching for applications needing improvement.

Utilizing STROBE’s performance profiles, iSTROBE quickly and easily identifies the performance characteristics of complex application problems. It augments STROBE’s value by increasing and simplifying the identification of performance opportunities within the STROBE Performance Profile. This gives IT staff a stronger skill set more quickly, resulting in a quicker and higher return on investment.

"When we need a tool to help improve efficiency, we use STROBE because it drills down through the system and subsystem infrastructure to highlight the offending line or lines of code, database calls and system services," said Darryl Lemecha, Chief Information Officer of ChoicePoint Inc. "Our IT professionals at ChoicePoint have been able to focus on inefficiencies and streamline applications to improve response and processing times."

"Every day, companies are faced with new performance issues, many appearing from nowhere. Identifying and resolving these issues without reliable and accurate information may elongate resolution and cause more problems," said Jim Holland, Director of Product Management, Compuware Corporation. "STROBE and iSTROBE make a powerful solution combination that demystifies application performance and reduces costly and unnecessary upgrades."
