Compuware Debugs DB2 Stored Procedures

Latest Version of XPEDITER/TSO Introduces DB2 Stored Procedure Support Streamlining Error Resolution

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- March 15, 2001 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today introduced XPEDITER/TSO version 7.0, the industry’s first automated testing tool developed for DB2 Stored Procedures. XPEDITER/TSO’s debugging option intercepts S/390 DB2 Stored Procedures that originate from mainframe, client-server or web-based applications. Using this option, organizations reduce the time involved in developing and deploying DB2 Stored Procedures and increase the reliability of the application, so it can provide critical information to users whenever and wherever they need it.

"XPEDITER’s DB2 Stored Procedure support is significant for us because we anticipate increased use of Stored Procedures as we incorporate relational models into our existing legacy systems and as we move to a more web-centric environment," said John Stone, Software Systems engineer, West Bend Mutual Insurance Company. "To accomplish our goals, we need the same support for extensive and detailed testing of stored procedures as we do for existing legacy development. XPEDITER’s DB2 Stored Procedure support provides the solution we need in a context already known and familiar to our staff."

Testing is done in the actual DB2/Workload Manager address space so time-consuming simulation of how the DB2 Stored Procedure will run is not necessary. Developers can trap and step through DB2 Stored Procedures written in COBOL, Assembler, PL/I and C.

Using the DB2 Stored Procedure option in XPEDITER/TSO, developers have flexibility in how they analyze and test. They can suspend and resume program execution at any point in the program, display and change program data variables, alter program logic and set statement execution counts. To further strengthen users’ analysis and testing capabilities, XPEDITER /TSO works with XPEDITER/Code Coverage and File-AID DB2.

"With more organizations deploying DB2 Stored Procedures to help them meet increasing requests for information throughout their enterprise, our customers asked us to build testing support that was easy to use and helped them reduce the risk of placing the procedures into production," said Gail Ruby, director, Product Management, Compuware Corporation. "The DB2 Stored Procedure option brings all the benefits of our XPEDITER product line to the DB2 Stored Procedure development process."
