Compuware Unveils Value-Based Licensing
Compuware Delivers on Commitment to Support Sub-Capacity Licensing Capabilities on IBM z/900 Series
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. --May 23, 2001 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today announced its new value-based licensing model for eligible enterprise software products to be deployed on the recently introduced IBM z/900 series hardware platform. This new licensing model permits customers to define their capacity needs for Compuware product deployment independently of the IBM z/900 "footprint" capacity. Each logical partition of a z/900 can be licensed separately using the new model. Compuware will release details of this new licensing model at the Gartner SWAMI Conference in San Diego on May 24, 2001. This licensing model is made available through Compuware’s version 2.0 License Manager security technology. This version of Compuware’s license management technology is fully integrated into the new IBM z/OS and provides the benefits associated with the XSLM standard. XSLM is a licensing technology standard that was developed over the past six years by a consortium of customers and select software publishers including Compuware and IBM. IBM has announced that implementation of their license management system will be available in the future. The minimum requirements to participate in this new licensing option include Compuware product deployment on the IBM z/900 series hardware platform operating under z/OS. Compuware License Manager 2.0 is also required. All currently marketed OS/390-based Compuware products are eligible for this licensing model and are fully functional and compatible with the IBM zSeries 900 platform under the 64-bit Real operational mode architecture. "Our customers are asking for this capability, and now we are delivering," said Hank Jallos, Compuware Executive Vice President of Products. "This licensing model gives our customers the capability to define capacity requirements based on their business needs," Jallos said. "We announced our support for the zSeries technology in October 2000 and its sub-capacity partitioning capabilities. We are now following through on our commitment to support customer-defined capacity."
