Compuware Enhances Load Testing, Server Monitoring For Distributed Enterprise Applications
QACenter Performance Edition 4.8 Delivers Enhanced Support for Enterprise Java, Wireless and Oracle Applications; Introduces Server Analysis Agents
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- October 3, 2001 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today introduced QACenter Performance Edition, version 4.8. This version extends Compuware's enterprise-application testing capability by adding enhanced support for applications developed using enterprise Java, wireless technology and packaged Oracle applications. Additionally, QACenter Performance Edition 4.8 adds Server Analysis Agents, which improves the monitoring of applications being tested. "QACenter Performance Edition 4.8 signals Compuware's ongoing commitment to helping customers manage application performance challenges," said Billie Shea, Director of Research and Reporting Services, Newport Group, Inc. "Businesses need to know that their applications will perform as expected before they go live. This is accomplished by creating accurate production simulations and measuring application performance and scalability through a repeatable load-testing process. Performance Edition 4.8 delivers on that need." On September 27, Compuware announced that Performance Edition earned "Editor's Choice" recognition from Natverk & Kommunikation, an IDG publication based in Sweden. The review matched Compuware's performance solution against others by Mercury Interactive, Rational Software, Radview Software and Sweden-based Innovative-IT, and editors called Performance Edition "no doubt the most capable product in this test." With the addition of Easyscript for RMI (Remote Method Invocation), QACenter Performance Edition now supports load testing of remote enterprise Java Beans within distributed applications. Additionally, this suite helps development and quality assurance teams produce load testing scripts in Java that can be used to ensure the scalability and performance of J2EE components. Compuware's QACenter Performance Edition also extends support for load testing of wireless applications by adding native support for Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). WAP support works by recording the transactions between a wireless device or emulator and a WAP gateway. It then creates a script that reflects the same wireless business transactions that a real wireless device makes. This suite also supports load testing of web applications serving i-MODE or WML (Wireless Markup Language) content through HTTP and SSL. Version 4.8 introduces server analysis agents based on Compuware's EcoSYSTEMS technology. The agents help businesses pinpoint performance bottlenecks by providing valuable utilization metrics on web servers, application servers, and database servers being exercised by load testing. Server-utilization data from the agents and response time information from the load test is automatically downloaded and correlated through the use of Compuware's exclusive ActiveAnalysis technology, and is available for post-test analysis. "This integrated solution for performance helps businesses confidently take their high-performing applications live," said Jay Holmstrom, Director of Product Management for Compuware's QACenter family of ASQ products. "Performance Edition gives Compuware customers a tangible and competitive application advantage, and no other software vendor offers this much life cycle value."
