Compuware Introduces Release 8.0 of Application Performance Suite; Touts Integration Strategy by Re-Branding EcoSYSTEMS Name to Vantage

Compuware Vantage 8.0 Offers New End-User Experience Tool, Groundbreaking Application Visualization and Integrated Service Level Reporting

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- December 3, 2001 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today announced at the Computer Measurement Conference (Booth #615) Version 8.0 of its popular EcoSYSTEMS application performance management tool set. The suite is re-branding with the name Vantage to capitalize on the numerous advantages this release offers customers. Vantage 8.0 provides IT professionals with new products for end-user experience monitoring and WAN provisioning along with accelerated troubleshooting, groundbreaking web-based application visualization and integrated service level reporting.

"As networking professionals, Windy City Solutions uses a wide range of diversified performance tools and detailed modeling practices to enable large enterprise customers superior application performance and availability," said Joel Natkin, Quality Management Partner, Windy City Solutions, LLC. "Rather than using point products, the integration of Application Expert, Application Vantage and Predictor have enhanced our ability to provide detailed application modeling forecasts to our customers. It appears that Compuware's new Vantage 8.0 release will provide even tighter integration allowing networking professionals to model and profile capabilities required to successfully enhance existing and deploy new applications services."

Compuware is re-branding the individual products that comprise the new Vantage 8.0 suite. Interval Pro, designed for end-user response time monitoring, is integrated with Compuware's QARun application testing software to create the suite's newest product--ClientVantage. EcoSCOPE, the tool for network application and monitoring, is re-named NetworkVantage while EcoTOOLS, the database and server applications management tool is re-named ServerVantage. Application Vantage, used for production troubleshooting, continues with the same name as does Application Expert, the tool for transaction analysis. EcoPREDICTOR, the predictive analysis tool, is re-named Predictor. EcoChannel, the suite's reporting tool, is re-named VantageView.

"Networking professionals looking for a Swiss Army Knife type of tool to resolve all of their application performance management issues will have little luck finding one," said Richard L. Ptak, Senior Vice President, Hurwitz Group, Inc. "The closest solutions are integrated tool sets that can manage infrastructure performance and address the key requirements of application monitoring and alerting, problem resolution, service level reporting and growth management. Compuware's re-named Vantage performance management suite gives a good example of this in its latest 8.0 release."

Enterprise-Wide End User Experience Monitoring and Accelerated Troubleshooting

Vantage 8.0 features ClientVantage, a new end user experience-monitoring solution that provides synthetic as well as desktop response-time monitoring of an organization's entire portfolio of critical applications. Using the proven capabilities of Compuware's QARun testing software, ClientVantage monitors web-based and Windows applications. It also monitors nearly any application that can be accessed from a Windows desktop, including legacy applications and Citrix applications.

ClientVantage also captures diagnostic information at the time of a service level violation and provides pre-configured diagnostic reports to help characterize a performance problem and accelerate problem resolution. Application Vantage can be used with the diagnostic information captured by ClientVantage to perform in-depth performance analysis and identify whether the problem is attributable to the application, the network or the server infrastructure.

Integrated Application Visualization

ClientVantage works together with NetworkVantage (formerly EcoSCOPE) and ServerVantage (formerly EcoTOOLS) to provide cohesive, front-to-back application monitoring, troubleshooting, service level management and growth management. This Vantage 8.0 tool integration is accessed from VantageView (formerly EcoCHANNEL), an integrated web-based monitoring, troubleshooting and reporting console that presents a common application view to all the disciplines involved in application performance analysis and problem resolution.

Multi-Level Growth Management

Vantage 8.0 also includes a new WAN Provisioning Module that uses transaction profiles captured in pre-production by the award winning Application Expert as the basis for sizing WAN links to support anticipated application workloads from remote locations. This capability is also integrated into the Predictor network growth management solution (formerly EcoPredictor) to facilitate enterprise-wide WAN provisioning.

Integrated Service Level Reporting

Vantage 8.0 offers integrated service level reports that combine end-user performance and application availability statistics with supporting metrics from the underlying application infrastructure--client, network, servers and databases. This provides an IT organization with a comprehensive view of the service levels delivered to their end users as well as the performance and availability of the pertinent infrastructure resources.

"The goal of Vantage 8.0 is to deliver an integrated front-to-back solution for managing application performance and service levels, starting with end user experience monitoring. A multidisciplinary solution like Vantage can reduce mean time to resolution by accelerating performance analysis and improving cross-organizational collaboration and communications," said John Williams, Director, Vantage Product Management, Compuware Corporation.
