Compuware Team Takes First Place in National Black Data Processing Associates High School Competition
Detroit High Schoolers Win Computer Programming and Web Design Competitions
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- October 4, 2000 -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR) announced today that the Detroit Public Schools' team captured first place in both the computer programming and the web design competitions in the Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) High School Computer Competition. The Detroit team, consisting of four local high school students, received the highest score in the history of the competition, compiling 244 points of a possible 272. Sponsored by Compuware Corporation, the Detroit team spent months preparing for the intensive competition. Students Ian Kerman and Veronica Taylor from Detroit Renaissance High School and Stephen Clayton and Quinton Green from Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. High School represented Detroit in the competitions, defeating 24 teams sponsored by other technology companies. The students were rewarded for their hard work when they took first place in both the computer programming and web page design competitions at the 22nd Annual National Conference of the BDPA in Washington, D.C. The team had to demonstrate knowledge of Visual Basic programming language, web page design, presentation skills, computer terminology and computer history. First place prizes earned by the students include scholarships, trophies and boxing gloves signed by Sugar Ray Leonard. Dr. Kenneth Stephen Burnley, Detroit Public Schools CEO, praised the students' accomplishments, saying: "Placing first in this national computer technology competition is quite an accomplishment. These students from two Detroit high schools, Renaissance and Martin Luther King Jr., exemplify the very best talent in the school district and in the country. We celebrate their achievements and take our hats off to their teachers, counselors, principals and parents.
