Compuware's New Version of EcoPROFILER Helps Optimize Performance Prior to New Application Deployment

Network Managers and Software Developers Minimize E-commerce, CRM, ERP and Other Application Response Times with EcoPROFILER 2.1

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- April 10, 2000 -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR) today announced a solution enabling developers and network managers to predict the performance of new network applications before deployment. With EcoPROFILER 2.1, Information Technology (IT) professionals can now design and launch applications faster, with less risk and lower deployment costs. New reporting features provide detailed information to help minimize response times for e-commerce, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), remote access, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), e-mail and other applications. These reporting features provide comprehensive analysis capabilities that help minimize response times for increased user satisfaction.

"If we have problems with e-commerce applications not performing to client expectations, EcoPROFILER is an effective and easy-to-use tool that can help identify where the problem is coming from. It is also useful in troubleshooting application problems and pinpointing where response time delays might occur," said Joe Wrzosek of 3M Corporation. "EcoPROFILER is very useful for pre-deployment application testing, as it allows us to see how the application looks on the wire before it is released in production."

EcoPROFILER 2.1 provides numerous ways to investigate the true issues surrounding response times including analyzing how efficiently the application will run over a WAN, decodes of problem packets, and other methods of analyzing the components of response time delays. Sensitivity charts illustrate the relationships between response time, bandwidth, latency, the number of users and utilization. This allows network planners to see what resources are needed to meet a specific response time goal. Charts and reports are easily exported for external analysis or web publication.

"With the proliferation of e-business, new EcoPROFILER capabilities are available at a particularly useful time because a company's performance is more visible than ever," said Alan Shoap, Director, EcoSYSTEMS Product Center. "In the past, organizations rolled out applications and worried about poor performance later. EcoPROFILER helps deploy applications successfully over the network and predicts their performance so developers can minimize response times early."

Price and Availability

EcoPROFILER is immediately available with prices starting at $14,500.

EcoPROFILER

EcoPROFILER transforms a packet trace captured from a test-bed environment into an application profile. The resulting profile is used to perform "what-if" scenarios to test the application's interaction with changing network factors. EcoPROFILER works with in-house developed applications as well as with off-the-shelf applications from vendors such as Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft, Baan and others.

Unlike typical methods of pre-deployment testing, which focus on server performance and stress testing, EcoPROFILER allows network managers and developers to see how the application will perform across multiple WAN configurations. Transactions from EcoPROFILER can also be deployed in EcoPREDICTOR to see how the new application will affect the existing network and traffic.

EcoSYSTEMS

EcoPROFILER is part of Compuware's EcoSYSTEMS product suite of application infrastructure management solutions--the industry's most comprehensive suite of end-to-end performance and availability management tools currently available. EcoSYSTEMS integrated toolset helps IT professionals plan and manage application and system performance from pre-production through post-production and beyond, as infrastructure needs change and grow. A single suite to address the application management lifecycle provides customers with the greatest value and economies of scale by providing integrated data about their infrastructures.
