New B2B Air Cargo Computer System from Compuware and Syntegra Expected to Save Industry Millions of Dollars Per Year

UNIFACE E-commerce Solution to Fully Integrate Air Cargo Ground Handling Operations

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- March 20, 2000 -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR) announced today it will work with Syntegra, the global consulting and systems integration business of British Telecommunications plc, to build a new generation business-to-business air cargo computer system that will manage performance, operational processes and information flow during air cargo ground handling operations. Syntegra and Compuware's Professional Services Division will build Syntegra's new CargoChorus Terminal Management system using Compuware's UNIFACE solution, a powerful component-based development environment.

The key benefit CargoChorus offers is that it is e-commerce ready-- Syntegra's leading-edge solution will link entire communities of airlines, freight forwarders, ground handling organizations and custom authorities. The powerful combination of UNIFACE's e-commerce capabilities and the expertise of Compuware's professional services team, means that Syntegra will have a business-to-business system that is open and flexible enough to integrate CargoChorus with partners and suppliers, while improving the delivery of products and services. This new core system for the air cargo industry could eventually save airlines millions of dollars per year, currently invested individually by organizations in duplicated IT functionality.

"Syntegra recognizes that a component-based solution, rather than single- system development, presents a stronger business opportunity as it provides a mix and match of functionality and customized solutions to meet customers' requirements," said Mike Navin, Syntegra's airlines specialist. "In selecting Compuware we were aware of its wide-ranging component and e- commerce expertise, which is necessary to guide a complex and ambitious project such as this to a successful conclusion."

Syntegra's objective is to deploy an integrated air cargo automation system embracing all aspects of commercial operations--physical movement, accounting and financial management--to provide a coordinated approach to managing cargo services. The improvement in performance standards, which CargoChorus will support, enables air cargo businesses to compete on equal terms with integrated express organizations by managing flights and shipments from a service perspective.

James Fernandez, who heads up the terminal management business development program at Syntegra said, "CargoChorus aims to inject a new service-driven philosophy into the physical handling operation by creating genuine process automation and supporting true service differentiation. It will ensure that the correct handling functions are carried out in the right way, at the right time. Everyone agrees a new system is necessary and our partnership with Compuware makes it possible. I'm very excited about getting this core application ready for market deployment later this year."

"Compuware's strengths in enterprise application integration, legacy extension and e-commerce were critical in Syntegra's successful evaluation of the proposed solution," said Edwin Schumacher, Director of Product Management for Compuware UNIFACE. "One of the key advantages of this system will be flexibility. Its open and flexible IT platform means that integrating CargoChorus with existing legacy systems, warehouse control systems and customs environments can be achieved in a timely and cost effective manner."
