Compuware Expands Solution for One-stop Enterprise E-commerce Application Delivery
UNIFACE JTi Enables Rapid Deployment of Existing Client/Server Applications on the Web
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- February 22, 2000 -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR) today announced UNIFACE JTi (Java Thin-client interface), a powerful solution for bringing existing feature-rich client/server applications to the web with no code rewrites. UNIFACE JTi complements UNIFACE WebApplication Server, an enterprise-scalable solution for building new, web-based applications. Both products combine to provide customers with a one-stop e-commerce application delivery experience. "We are very excited about UNIFACE JTi," said Bob MacLean, IT manager CANAC, the most comprehensive provider of railroad-related services in the United States, Mexico and Canada. "We have invested a lot of time and money in our client/server applications and UNIFACE JTi provides us with the opportunity to reap the rewards of that effort in an e-commerce environment. As a result, time to market is significantly reduced and development costs are cut. In addition simplified management, improved security and better performance from our existing infrastructure are compelling business reasons for us to adopt UNIFACE JTi." UNIFACE JTi enables large dispersed organizations to manage their run- the-business UNIFACE applications centrally because there is no software distribution to individual clients. Only the presentation manager, which has low memory and bandwidth requirements, is required on the client, making high performance over low-bandwidth connections possible. Users in remote locations can access full-featured applications over dial-up connections. This capability eliminates the need for lightweight, custom-made versions of applications that offer users restricted functionality. Because all data is stored centrally, the inherent risk of keeping sensitive information on disparate client desktops is removed. UNIFACE JTi runs on a Windows NT server together with UNIFACE-based applications. Installation is automatic as customers can choose between self-installable Java applets and a browser plug-in, and so ensure that none of the interactivity and GUI richness of enterprise, client/server applications is lost. When users log onto UNIFACE JTi, they can launch any UNIFACE Seven client/server application to which they have access. "The development and deployment of complex e-commerce applications requires tailored solutions to meet individual requirements," said Dirk Gorter, Director Product Management of Compuware UNIFACE products. "UNIFACE is a one-stop shop catering to all our customers' web needs with UNIFACE JTi, UNIFACE WebApplication Server and a whole range of products able to ensure the delivery of enterprise e-commerce applications." UNIFACEUNIFACE is Compuware's development environment for building, renewing and integrating strategic applications. UNIFACE focuses on the critical areas of e-commerce, enterprise application integration and legacy renewal to reduce the cost of ownership of business-critical applications and increase the return on investment of the IT budget.
